Madmax is a forward-leaning band started by four friends at “jazzlinja” in Trondheim. With the exotic line-up of tuba, synth, vocals, guitar, and drums, and a rather nonchalant attitude towards genre boundaries, the band plays fearless music that is perfect for both unrestrained dancing and contemplation. Described as everything from “experimental and dynamic bonkers-rock”, “jazzy and artistic math rock with tuba” (GAFFA.no), to “psychedelic pop” (Audun Vinger, Jazzinorge) and “surrealistic” (Radio Revolt), Madmax is a live-experience a little out of the ordinary.

The band was formed in 2022 and has since played concerts at Trondheim Calling, Oslo Jazz Festival, Dokkhuset Scene and Salt, among others. In the summer of 2024, they had their international debut during a work stay at La Maison Matrice in Switzerland. Here they wrote much of the music that will appear on their first album: “We’re bringing dubstep back!”. The album was recorded in Studio Paradiso with Martin Tonne (Pom Poko) as producer, and will be released on Jazzland Recordings on March 20, 2026. The band released “u stole my guitar :(“, the first single from the album, on January 29. In the spring of 2026, they will play as one of eight bands in the prestigious program Jazzintro, and embark on a Norwegian tour to promote their debut album.
